Paralympic Sport Breckenridge
In partnership with US Paralympics, the BOEC has established a new program, Paralympic Sport Breckenridge. The Paralympic Sports Program makes it possible for people of all ages with a physical disability to increase independence, improve self-confidence, and to socially integrate themselves through structured individual and team sports. Currently the BOEC Paralympic Sports Club is focusing on introducing participants to alpine and nordic skiing, both paralympic sports.
Paralympic Sports Club
The BOEC has been awarded the status as a U.S. Paralympic Sports Club (PSC) by the U.S Paralympics. Paralympic Sports Club Breckenridge now joins a national network of Paralympic Sports Clubs designed to improve the grassroots level participation in sports for people with physical disabilities. The U.S. Olympic Committee’s Paralympic Division provides the opportunity to use Paralympic marks in promoting the Breckenridge Club, and provides opportunity to co-brand Paralympics with the BOEC. The primary objectives of of Paralympic Sports Clubs include:
- To develop community-based sports clubs that recruit and involve youth and adults with physical disabilities in sports and physical activity regardless of skill or interest level.
- To develop a comprehensive, community-based Paralympic Sport Club network as a foundation for a Paralympic athlete pipeline.
- To provide community-based sport program opportunities for injured service members to continue sport participation upon their release from Military Treatment Facilities.
- To create a national, unified, community-based Paralympic Sports Club network that provides a “grass-roots” branding campaign to educate America on the opportunity and benefits inherent in sport and physical activity as practiced by persons with physical disabilities.
As a member of this network of Paralympic Sports Clubs, BOEC will be conducting introductory and developmental clinics and lessons. These activities will give the physically disabled community, their friends, family and colleagues an opportunity to experience the benefits of participating in skiing. We will also facilitate those who wish to pursue competitive skiing to appropriate channels.
