Adventures Within–Camps for MS

The Adventures Within Program at the BOEC

Wilderness Camps for People with MS

Adventures Within Inc. (AWI) has organized outdoor experiences for people with MS for over 20 years.  Charlotte Robinson-Pritchard founded AWI, a non-profit organization, with the mission of providing physically challenging yet safe outdoor experiences and supportive environments for the development of inner strength and courage.  Charlotte believed that the magic of the outdoors and adventure activities greatly enhance the lives of people with MS and improve their ability to manage the disease.  Both adults and children have enjoyed these programs over the years, many of which have been conducted in partnership with the BOEC.  Now Charlotte has handed the baton of AWI over to the BOEC to continue this long and proud tradition.

Effective October of 2010, the BOEC is pleased to welcome AWI into the BOEC family of programs.  The BOEC will continue the mission and traditions of AWI, expanding our courses for people with MS.  Charlotte will continue to support these efforts and help to ensure their quality and effectiveness.  The BOEC will also continue to partner with the Rocky Mountain Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Center, based in Englewood, to offer these exciting camps.

The Adventures Within multi-day programs are based out of the BOEC’s accessible Scott Griffith Lodge and include outdoor adventure activities such as white water rafting, high ropes course, adaptive cycling, rock climbing and skiing.  In addition, a flexible schedule enables time for reading, relaxing, fishing and enjoying the beauty and peace of the Colorado Rocky Mountains.

Not only are Adventures Within programs designed for outdoor recreation but they also provide attendees and their families a healthy and safe environment for discussion and reflection upon individual experiences as someone living with MS.  These times are ideal for sharing stories, expressing joys and frustrations and providing others with valuable resources.  Attendees are invited to bring a spouse, friend or other guest who provides them with support.

During the week, participants will savor delicious and nutritious home cooked meals, breathe in fresh mountain air and enjoy a relaxing stroll (or invigorating walk) around the Old Town Reservoir, located just outside the door!
