Programs

Canoeing Lake DillonBOEC offers outdoor education experiences throughout the year, both single and multi-day courses, for both individuals and groups, featuring many adventure activities in many locales in the Rocky Mountain and SE Utah region.

BOEC programs focus on strengthening communication, emphasizing abilities, challenging one’s self by choice, and of course, having a good time. Our varied curricula can include personal development, therapeutic recreation, adventure therapy, disability awareness, teambuilding or natural history. Groups usually combine several activities into a multi-day course. All courses can be specifically tailored to accommodate an individual’s and a group’s physical and mental abilities. Programs can be based at our 39-acre site in Breckenridge or conducted in spectacular natural areas throughout the West. Our innovative courses build confidence, promote skills for healthy living and advocate ecological awareness.

Programs include the following:

Girl Adaptive CanoeingCOURSES AND ACTIVITIES FOR INDIVIDUAL SIGN-UP.  The BOEC offers a series of open enrollment courses, camps and lessons throughout the year, each focusing on a specific disability, special need or population.  Our open enrollment schedule includes programs for the following populations: brain injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s, Sensory Processing Disorders/Autism/ADD, Developmental Disabilities, Cerebral Palsy, mixed disabilities, and disabled warriors and their families.  In addition, our agency programs work with other populations and many of these are open for individual sign up as well.

Adaptive Ski and Ride School.  The cornerstone of our winter programming is the Ski and Ride Program, based at both the Breckenridge and Keystone Ski Resorts. The Ski Program offers full and half-day adaptive lessons daily throughout the winter season. Stand-up, Bi-skis, monoskis, snowboards-all are adapted to the individual’s unique abilities, as is the lesson itself. Ski and Ride lessons can also be the primary element of a winter, multi-day course.  In 2006, the BOEC opened the Keystone Adaptive Center located at the Mountain House in Keystone Resort.  The Center offers its own ski and ride program and well as handcycling in the summertime.

CUSTOM-DESIGNED COURSES FOR AGENCIES AND GROUPS.  The BOEC has worked with many groups to design courses that meet specific needs and goals. Courses vary in content, duration, tone, and pace, all depending on the specific needs and abilities of the group.  Clients we have worked with include The Children’s Hospital, Brain Injury Association, American Cancer Society and many others.

The BOEC also offers the Professional Challenge program, the best in custom designed programs for working teams, executives, managers and adult groups. Outdoor activities and team initiatives, combined with the Experiential Learning Process, focuses your group’s energy to enhance communication skills, relationship-building, trust, and much more, in a fun and engaging outdoor experience. Sessions are usually ½ to a full day in length, but multi-day options are also available.

Program activity options include:

“So if something in us must change, spending time in nature provides a good beginning. This means that within nature, within the natural world, are all of the materials and tenets needed for healing human beings. Nature is the textbook for those who care to study it and the storehouse of remedies for human ills.” –Malidoma Some
